新型コロナウイルスの流行により、今までの日常は大きく変化しました。こうした状況の中、私たちは生活を根底から見つめ直す必要に迫られています。セイアンアーツアテンション14では、様々な作品やプロジェクトを通して、私たちの生活を支えている「家」のあり方を多面的に考察する展覧会を開催します。

　1920年、本学の母体である京都成安学園の学祖瀬尾チカは、裁縫の技術修得を通して女性の自立を促し、社会で広く活躍できる人材の育成を目指しました。それは、近代化した社会の中で「家」という枠組みに捉われない、新しい女性像を提示するための挑戦でした。それから100年、現代の私たちは「家」をどのように捉えているでしょうか。多くの人にとっては家族のいる場所、生まれ育った場所、プライバシーが守られる場所、安息を得る場所といったものかもしれません。一方、視点を変えてみれば、それは家柄、核家族化、引きこもりといった言葉に連想される、人間関係の固定化や断絶を生み出す枠組みとして捉えられるかもしれません。そして、「ステイホーム」という言葉が一般化したように、2020年から世界中で猛威を振るい、今なお刻々と変化し続けている新型コロナウイルスは、私たちの生活を一変させ、全ての人に「家」とは何かを考えるきっかけを与えました。

　本展覧会タイトルの「Re:Home」には、本学園が歩んできた100年を振り返るだけではなく、大きな変化に直面している私たちが、改めて日常を見つめ直すための問いを込めています。本展では、住処、生活様式、家族の関係、地域コミュニティの可能性など、「家」に潜在する多様な価値観を取り上げ、然るべき作品を展示・構成することにより、新しい視点に出会うきっかけになることを目的としています。「家」について考えてみることは、これからの生き方を考える上で切実な問題であり、本学園にとっては、時代の枠組みから女性を開放しようとした瀬尾チカのビジョンを、現代の私たちがどのように引き継ぐことができるのかを考えるヒントとなるでしょう。展覧会を通じて、未来の可能性を共に考える場となりましたら幸いです。

“Re:Home”

Our daily lives have drastically changed due to COVID-19. Under these circumstances, we are forced to rethink our lives. In Seian Arts Attention 14, we will hold an exhibition that examines the meaning of the word “home” from many perspectives through a variety of artworks and projects.

     In 1920, Chika Seo, the founder of Kyoto Seian Gakuen, the predecessor of this university, aimed to promote women's independence through the acquisition of sewing skills and to foster human resources who could work on a broader scale. It was a challenge to present a new image of women, one that was not bound by the traditional framework of "home" in a modern society. 100 years later, how do we grasp the true essence of "home" today? Some may think it is a place where there is family, a place where they grew up, a place where they can protect their privacy, and a place where they can take a rest. On the other hand, it may be seen as a framework which can fix and ruin human relationships, associated with words such as parentage, nuclear family, and a recluse. Just then as the term "stay home" has been established, COVID-19 that has been prevalent around the world since 2020 and its variant is still changing every moment, has changed our lives and made all of us think about what "home" means.

The title of this exhibition, "Re:Home," not only demonstrates the 100 years of our school's history but also implies questions that will help us to re-examine our daily lives. The exhibition features various perspectives which are latent in the meaning of “home,” such as living spaces, lifestyles, family relationships, and the possibility of local community. We aim at providing an opportunity to encounter new perspectives by showing appropriate works. For all of us, thinking about "home" is an urgent issue when considering how we should live our lives in the future. For this school, all the students and the personnels, this exhibition will be a hint to consider how we can carry on the vision of Chika Seo, who tried to liberate women from the traditional framework. We hope that the exhibition will provide an opportunity to think together about the possibilities of our future lives and the future of Seian University of Art and Design.
