キャンパスが美術館は2025年に開館15周年を迎えました。2010年に開館して以降、スペースの変化を経ながらも、授業や学生主催の作品発表の場として、また地域交流の拠点として、現在に至るまでさまざまな展覧会を開催してきました。なかでも、セイアンアーツアテンションと題した展覧会では、その時々の「注目すべきテーマ」に基づいて卒業生や招聘アーティストの作品を紹介することで、鑑賞者に多様な視点を届けることを目指してきました。

開館15周年記念となる本年のセイアンアーツアテンションでは、これまでの歩みを振り返り、そしてこれからの美術館のあり方を考える機会として、「Chronoscape｜蓄積された時間、継続する行為」と題した展覧会を開催します。「Chronos(クロノス)」は、ギリシャ神話に登場する時間の神であり、時計で計ることができる客観的な時間を意味します。「Chronoscape」とは、「Chronos（時間）」と風景を意味する「scape」を繋げた言葉で、「風景のように時間を眺める」ことをテーマにしています。

近年、私たちを取り巻く情報のスピードは加速度的に増しており、インターネットをはじめとする技術の進化によって、検索や移動にかかる時間は大幅に短縮されました。初めて作る料理も、読めない言語も、スマートフォンを使えばすぐに答えが見つかり、欲しいものはクリック一つで手に入る日常が当たり前になっています。さらには、AIの発展により、テキストや画像生成にとどまらない新たな可能性も拡がりつつあります。こうした技術は人類が積み重ねてきた知恵の産物であり、効率を追求することで、私たちの生活はますます便利になってきました。

しかし一方で、日々の「積み重ね」そのものに目を向けてみると、そこには結果よりも「過程」を大切にする視点が浮かび上がってきます。とくに勉学や制作活動など、自らの意思で継続する行為においては、一日一日の作業をどう進め、どのように積み上げていくかが非常に重要です。結果とは、その積み重ねの中から現れる一つの側面にすぎません。たとえ望んだ結果が得られなかったとしても、意思を持って続けた行為には確かな意味があり、ときに思いがけない出来事や新しい発見につながることがあります。それは、効率を求めるだけでは得られない「省略しえない行為の積み重ね」がもたらす価値なのではないでしょうか。

本展の出展作品は、いずれも行為の積み重ねを重視した手法で制作されています。一つ一つはシンプルな行為ですが、何百回、何千回と繰り返されることで時間が可視化され、風景のように立ち現れてきます。その様子は、作品の細部に宿る積み重ねられた過程の重要性に気づかせてくれるのではないでしょうか。積み重なった時間と行為から生み出される風景を、ぜひお楽しみください。

※セイアンアーツアテンションとは、現代において注目すべきテーマを設定した総合芸術祭であり、キャンパス内に所在する複数のギャラリーを舞台に開催しています。2011年春のVOL.0から、今回で19回目となります。また、本展は本学と本学同窓会(KAITSUBURI)との連携事業です。

Seian Art Center celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2025. Since its opening in 2010, despite changes in the number of gallery spaces,we have continuously served as venues for classes and student-organized exhibitions, as well as a hub for community engagement.Over the years, the museum has hosted a variety of exhibitions. Seian Arts Attention series aim to offer diverse perspectives to visitors by showcasing works of alumni and invited artists based on notable contemporary themes of the time—for example, the relationship between food and community in SSA17 Eating Together, or the perception of the real world in SSA16 Error of Reality.

Our latest series, Chronoscape: Accumulated Time, Acts of Consistency, marks a significant milestone and will provide an opportunity to look back on the museum’s history and think about its future direction. Chronoscape is a newly coined word that combines “Chronos”­—a Greek god of time—with the suffix “-scape,” which evokes the idea of a landscape. Through this exhibition, viewers are invited to engage with the concept of time—to contemplate it as something that can be visually captured, like a landscape in the artwork.

  In recent years, the speed of information around us has dramatically increased. With the evolution of technologies such as the Internet, the time it takes to search for information or travel from place to place has been greatly reduced. Today, it is normal to find a recipe for a dish we have never made or understand a language we cannot read—just by using a smartphone. Anyone can get what they want with a single click. Moreover, the rapid development of AI continues to expand possibilities beyond simple text or image generation. Our lives have become more convenient and efficient by these technologies, the result of accumulated human knowledge.

In contrast, thinking about what we accumulate in our daily lives, a perspective emerges that values the  process over the result. When one follows through with determination and consistency, especially in learning or creating artworks, it is important to carry out small tasks every day and see how these steps lead to results. We need to remember that the result is just one aspect of that process. Even if we do not achieve the desired results, the accumulation of our efforts must have certain meanings: the effort may lead to unexpected experience or a new encounter. In today’s world that values efficiency, could it be that we also find value in the accumulation of daily acts and efforts that cannot simply be skipped?

All of the works featured in this exhibition are created using methods that value repetition and steady effort. Each individual action may seem simple on its own, but when repeated hundreds or thousands of times, time becomes visible—appearing like a landscape. These works invite us to recognize the importance of the accumulated process embedded in their details. We hope you enjoy the landscapes that arise from layered time and continuous action.
