このたび、キャンパスが美術館では「キャンパスが美術館開館15周年記念展覧会　岡田修二　未知への迂回路」を開催します。

　長年にわたり本学の教育・研究に尽力されてきた岡田修二は、教育活動と並走しながら創作活動にも情熱を注ぎ、多くの優れた作品を生み出しました。特に、2012年に本学と滋賀県立近代美術館（現滋賀県立美術館）との連携推進事業として、ロンドン大学ゴールドスミスカレッジの協力も得て開催された「自然学｜SHIZENGAKU〜来るべき美術のために〜」では、プロジェクトを主導する立場として企画に携わり、東日本大地震後の世界の捉え方を作品とシンポジウムによって提示しました。

　本展では、近年精力的に取り組んでいる《水辺》、《立花》、《自然学》の各シリーズを中心に展示します。一貫して「世界に潜在する力」を作品として顕在化することを主題としつつ、近代化によってもたらされた人間中心主義からの脱却を目指した岡田の作品には、自然に対する深い洞察と豊かな表現力が息づいています。本展が岡田の近年の歩みを振り返るとともに、ご来場の皆様にとって新たな発見と感動を得られる機会となることを願っております。

Seian Art Center is pleased to announce its 15th anniversary commemorative exhibition: OKADA Shuji—Meandering Path to the Unknown. 

Shuji Okada dedicated his years working on development of education and academic studies at Seian University of Art and Design for over a decade; he is passionate about creating great works and supporting artists. One of his significant activities is SHIZENAGKU—The Search for a Coming Aesthetic, the exhibition in association with Museum of Modern Art, Shiga, formerly known as Shiga Museum of Art, and Seian University of Art and Design (supported by Goldsmiths, University of London). As a leading member of artists, he has engaged in the project and suggested how to perceive the world after the 2011 Japan earthquake in his paintings and a symposium.  

The current exhibition primarily showcases the recent series of Shuji Okada, “Waterside,” “Rikka” and “SHIZENGAKU” Revealing the richness which lies dormant in the world as a consistent motif of his series, these works aim to break away from anthropocentrism brought by modernization. Viewers could certainly see a deep insight of nature and various expressions existed in his pieces. It is our hope that this exhibition will encourage viewers to look back at his achievements and bring new insights and offer a moving experience.
